In this paper, we revisit this relationship by allowing for inflation and growth to have a nonlinear specification dependent on inflation levels. Webillustrate the phenomena of international deflation and depression and the relationship between the two. This is followed by a description of the international gold standard and its deflationary effect on the world economy. Finally, we look at the gradual collapse of the gold standard, which provided the basis for global economic recovery.
